Here is a nice summary of the proposed Senate healthcare bill. While I think this bill will be passed there are rumors Republican Senators Rand Paul and Mike Lee will not support any healthcare bill that does not fully repeal Obamacare. If this is the case, then every other Republican must vote for the bill. If one Republican (assuming no Democrats vote for this bill) votes no, the bill is dead.
My take on healthcare has been that there are much bigger issues Congress can be dealing with. Rejiggering this bill is simply trying to put a band-aid on a healthcare system that is unfair and corrupt. The underlying problems are the prices for equipment and medicine. These costs get passed on to the consumer and ultimately insurance companies. It doesn’t really matter how good the healthcare bill is, healthcare companies will keep gouging. Considerable research is needed to understand how we can keep healthcare costs down. This will lower the cost to insurance companies and these savings will be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums and copays.
